 Christmas is a festival that is celebrated all over the global with a lot of enthusiasm and joy, cutting across the barriers of religion. But there is a special charm in the Christmas in Goa that sets it apart from celebrations of Christmas anywhere else in India. Being predominated mainly by the Christians, Goa, during this time comes alive in a kaleidoscope of colors and revelry.

 Eid al Fitr festival also called Feast of Breaking the Fast and Lesser Eid. This is a Muslims religion people related people festival. It is a main and holy festival of the Islamic people. People fast to one holy Ramadan month. This festival comes on the end day of the Ramadan month. People fast start from day dawn to sunset. This festival comes in July month every year. 
People wear new clothes and distribute sweets to relative and friends. People prepare different types of the sweets and foods. They go to Mosque and prayer to God.

 The festival of lights decorates India for six days all around the country. Diwali is one of the most important Hindu festivals and is celebrated on a grand scale. Though Goa was colonized by the Portuguese for a long time, the influence of Hindu Gods and Goddesses hasn’t faded through the years.

Effigies of Narakasura are made with dried leaves, paper and fire crackers. People carry these effigies in a procession, while abusing and taunting the demon, and burn it post dusk.

Shigmotsav






 

Shigmo parade is a street festival filled with colors, music, dance and float parade. The life of a Goan is depicted in elaborate folk performances by local men and women who dance tirelessly in huge processions along with the parade.
 


 There are two variants of Shigmo festival: Dhakto Shigmo ("small Shigmo") and Vhadlo Shigmo ("big Shigmo").[1] Dhakto Shigmo is generally celebrated by farmers, the labour class and the rural population, while Vhadlo Shigmo is of greater consequence and is celebrated by everyone together.[1]

  The most important and almost the national festival for Goan's is the Ganesh Chaturthi known as 'Chovoth'.


Ganesha Chaturthi (also known as Vināyaka Chaturthi, Gaṇēśa Chaturthī or Vināyaka Chaviti) is the Hindu festival celebrated in honour of the elephant-headed god, Ganesha. This is a very auspicious day celebrated to pray to the god so that every new activity that is started is successfully completed without any obstacles .(Vighna = Obstacle).He is the God of knowledge.
 The festivities run into several days, but minimum at least for two and half days, when puja of Gouri and Mahadev along with Ganapati, is performed. Goddess Gouri is drawn on paper and Lord Shiva symbolised by a coconut.
